Scam artists - Was told I needed the inner tie rod end on the driver side in order for my car to pass VA inspection. Ferber's offered to do the work for me, at a low price of $500.. . This takes less than an hour, thankfully I declined their con. They did not charge me for the pre-state inspection but they misled me into thinking I needed service that I did not actually need. This led me to wasting my valuable time and money this past weekend. I took it to another shop to get a second opinion and they told me my inner tie rods are fine (BOTH of the inner tie rods and center link have less than 30,000 miles on it from the previous owner), but my outers were pretty bad.. I replaced the outers myself and the boots were cracked - BUT FERBERS MADE NO MENTION OF THIS. I have paperwork from them that states directly that the driver-side inner tie rod end needs to be replaced, and nothing else. However, the center link and inner tie rods were in extremely better shape than the outers. These people are either incredibly incompetent or ripping off people who know little about cars. My advice to you - avoid this trash at all costs. I will not be bringing my car back to them in the future. I'm also taking this review to the BBB because people like this do not deserve to be in business. I work hard for my money as do most people, Ferbers is a perfect example of modern day crooks.

*A copy of the letter I sent this gentlemen* I am writing this letter because I am extremely puzzled as to why you are trashing Ferber’s name with the BBB and online? When I called you Monday evening to find out why you felt scammed, I hung up feeling you were making these allegations and accusations based on assumptions and false information. Today I received the letter from BBB, which prompted me to write you. My hope is to make you aware of how the internet makes it easy to defame someone online without regard for the impact it can have on someone’s livelihood and reputation. Digital is forever, whether it’s true or not. I personally took your call when you made the appointment. You wanted an early Va. State inspection; because you thought something was wrong. We did exactly what you asked. Plus, we didn’t even charge for it figuring you were a young guy just wanting information. Based on our conversation and your BBB letter this is my position: • A tie rod CANNOT be checked off the car. Period. • You made an “assumption” we were going to find other items wrong. • We made an estimate for us to do the work. We make estimates and offer to do work because that is the business we are in. So, your mention of it being a “con” is puzzling. • Of course we are more expensive; steaks are cheaper from Foodlion than Outback. Except if we burn your steak, we cook you a new one. If you burn your steak, you are eating burnt steak. • We did not charge you for checking it over. You spent nothing with us! • It appears you are upset because you replaced the part we told you to, and then someone else tells you it’s not bad. But points out other issues. (Unrelated to VA S.I.) • Outer tie rod boots that are cracked is not a VA state inspection item. Again, following your request for an early state inspection check over. That would be more of a preventive maintenance item. In the future, please contact the business owner to discuss your dissatisfaction with them before trashing them online. It could be something as simple as not knowing how to check a part correctly. I take this very serious. I live here. I work here. My kids go to school here. I grew up here. So understand that my position and how much I care about my business, my employees and my community. So, as you said in the BBB letter, I’m writing to you in hopes you won’t use the comfort of your home to impugn hard working people like myself as modern day crooks. Real peoples live are affected. You can’t un-ring the bell once you hit enter. Respectfully, Robert Ferber

I have been a customer for several years and plan to remain one...they are straight shooters and bend over backwards to accommodate their customers. in addition to that their work is excellent, which is obviously important. i have several customer service stories that i tell my friends about these guys. if you live in hanover county i cannot recommend rob, kent and ricky enough.

I cannot say enough good things about these folks! I drive from the West End to their location in the Hanover Airpark to have my car serviced. As a single woman taking my car in to get worked on can sometimes be intimidating, but these guys take great care of my car and keep everything running well. The best part is that they are always looking out for ways to save me money too! I have never received anything less than the best service!!! These guys are very kind and a pleasure to deal with.

I have been going to Ferbers for years - since they bought the shop from the previous owners and I have had nothing but good experiences with them. I was surprised at the negative review I read below. Just does not sound like these guys at all. I take all my cars there and feel like they do what needs to be done and do not try to sell unnecessary work.

I've been taking my family's vehicles to Ferber's for years now and have always been more than satisfied with the level of service that I've gotten. They're always helpful when answering questions and go out of their way to make what can usually be a painful experience pleasant.
