The ignition coil's job is to take low voltage from the battery and transfer it to the higher amount needed to ignite your spark plugs and start your engine. As part of the ignition process, your vehicle will perform poorly or not at all without a properly running ignition coil.  As a critical part of your engine, as your ignition coil begins to fail, you may notice changes in your vehicle. So, what are the signs of a failing ignition coil? One of the critical signs of a poorly working ignition coil is a misfiring engine. If you feel a sputter or jerking while driving or accelerating, this could signal that one of your cylinders isn't firing correctly. Working in conjunction with this issue is a loss of power if your vehicle runs rough or feels sluggish while driving.
